Patrol
Linking your game session
Pair an in-game session to your CAD unit, go on duty, and stream your position so dispatch can see where you are.
If your community runs the PlateNet resource on its game server, you can link your game session to your CAD unit. Dispatch then sees where you are, and you can open a CAD tablet in game.
Linking is optional. Everything in the CAD works without it.
Pairing
Pairing binds you to your unit, in one community. You do it once, ever.
- In game, open the tablet (
/platenet, orF6by default). If PlateNet does
not know you yet, a 7-character code appears. It is valid for five minutes.
- In your browser, sign in to PlateNet, open your CAD, and enter the code under
UNIT PROFILE.
- Done. The tablet connects on its own within seconds - this session and every
session after. There is nothing to paste back in game.
The tablet then shows the CAD sign-in page. Sign in with your own PlateNet credentials once; the tablet stays signed in while you play. Signing out inside the tablet sticks - the next open asks for your password again, never for a new pairing code.
You do this because the game server cannot say who you are. It proves it is your community's server, not that you are a particular officer. Claiming the code from a browser you are already signed in to is what makes the link yours.
Claiming a new code from a different account replaces the pairing, and UNPAIR IN-GAME TABLET under UNIT PROFILE deletes it.
Going on duty
Duty is worked from inside the tablet - it is the same CAD you use in a browser. Go 10-8 there and position reporting starts; go off duty and it stops.
Position is only reported while you are on duty. Off duty, you are a civilian and your location is not sent.
What dispatch sees
Not a map. Your whereabouts appears on the dispatch board as a line of text under your unit on the roster:
VESPUCCI BLVD / PROSPERITY ST · NE · 48 MPH · 12S AGO
The street you are on, the direction you are travelling, your speed, and how old the report is. Smart dispatch also uses your position to work out which units are closest to a call - see automatic assignment.
Reports are throttled. If you are parked, your unit stops reporting until you move again, so the line may read a couple of minutes old while you are stationary. That is normal.
If you leave the game
Closing the game, crashing, or disconnecting **detaches you from your calls and sets you off duty**. It does not close the call. The call keeps its case number, its timeline and any other units on it, and a note is added recording that you detached. A dispatcher decides what happens to it.
Your position is removed when your session ends - a unit that is not in the game does not have a whereabouts, and leaving the last one on screen would show dispatch something that is not true.
The in-game tablet
/platenet (or your community's key, F6 by default) opens the CAD in game. It is the real CAD - the same site you use in a browser, served on a game-only origin, and you sign in to it with your own credentials. Work your calls, run queries, change status, write reports; closing and reopening the tablet keeps your place. Sign out and it stays signed out until you sign in again.
If something is wrong
| It says | Do | |---|---| | Not paired | Open the tablet for a fresh code and enter it under UNIT PROFILE. | | That code is not valid | It expired, or it was already used. Ask for a new one. | | The sign-in page again | Your CAD session ended (sign-out or a long idle). Sign in; the pairing is fine. | | Position is not updating | Check you are on duty. Off-duty units do not report. |
