Warrants
What happens once a warrant is approved, where it appears, how it is served and how it is cancelled.
A warrant becomes active when a supervisor approves a warrant application. See applying for a warrant for how one is filed.
Where an active warrant appears
A WARRANT flag is added to the person's record in red.
The warrant appears on the BOLOs board above ordinary BOLOs, showing the charge, the description, the subject and their date of birth.
The warrant appears in the person's return, in the ACTIVE BOLOS block, before any BOLOs. Any unit who runs that person sees it.
The WARRANT flag has no remove control. Removing it another way returns "Cancel the warrant from its warrant report."
Serving a warrant
A warrant is served through a later report. Charges added to an arrest or incident report can be linked to an active warrant, and approving that report marks the warrant SERVED and removes the WARRANT flag.
While that report is awaiting review the warrant is reserved against it, so a second report cannot close the same warrant at the same time. A rejected report releases it.
Cancelling a warrant
Open the warrant application. The WARRANT RECORD block at the bottom shows the current status.
While the status is ACTIVE, a supervisor who can review that report sees CANCEL WARRANT, which asks for confirmation.
Cancelling sets the warrant to CANCELLED and removes the WARRANT flag. The report remains.
The three statuses
ACTIVE is outstanding, and appears on the board, in the person's flags and in their returns.
SERVED means an approved report closed it. The report, date and time are recorded.
CANCELLED means a supervisor withdrew it, with the date and time recorded.
Served and cancelled warrants leave the BOLOs board and stop appearing on returns. The report keeps the history.
Who can act
Any unit can file a warrant application. Approving and cancelling both require supervisor standing. See reviewing reports as a supervisor.
