Getting started

Create an account and join a community

Redeem a community access code, choose a username and display name, and save the recovery code PlateNet shows you once.

Registration and joining a community happen on the same form. The registration page will not create an account without a valid access code.

The form accepts a department, dispatcher, manager or civilian code. Codes are generated by the community from the access codes panel.

Filling in the form

  1. Enter the access code.
  2. Enter a username. The help text under the field shows the accepted format. This is what you sign in with.
  3. Enter a display name. This appears next to your callsign.
  4. Enter a password. The help text under the field states the requirements.
  5. Tick the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy boxes. The version accepted is shown next to each.
  6. Tick "I confirm that I am at least 18 years old."
  7. Press CREATE ACCOUNT.

Your password must meet the requirements shown under the password field. See signing in and password rules.

If a username is unavailable, choose another.

The recovery code

The next page is headed "ACCOUNT RECOVERY CODE" and shows a single code. A COPY CODE button sits under it.

The warning on the page reads "Should you lose access to your account, PlateNet administration may require this code before making account changes or resetting access. If you do not retain it, this page cannot display it again."

Pressing "I HAVE SAVED THIS CODE" sends you to the login page with the message "Account created. Sign in using your new credentials." The code is not displayed again.

Joining a second community

Sign in, open the Portal and press MANAGE ACCOUNT, then use the "JOIN A COMMUNITY" section. You confirm your age again and the new community is selected.

Opening the registration page while signed in hides the account fields and changes the button to REDEEM CODE.

What a code grants

Additional access codes may add permissions to your existing access. See access codes.

A code with a department attached adds you to that department. A code issued for supervisors also gives you supervisor standing in that department, which is what allows report review and clearing other people's BOLOs.

A code that is disabled, expired or used up returns "That access code is invalid, disabled, expired, or used up."
